Its purpose is to keep these assets in good condition, extend their lifespan, reduce unplanned downtime, and enhance worker safety. Inadequate maintenance can lead to decreased productivity, increased repair costs, compromised worker safety, and diminished product quality. Well-planned and executed maintenance brings benefits such as cost reduction, increased machine availability, improved product quality, enhanced efficiency, and reduced workplace accidents. It is a strategic tool for company competitiveness, ensuring the continuity of production processes and customer satisfaction. This work presents the concept of maintenance and the philosophy of TPM (Total Productive Maintenance), also known as Total Productive Management. Through a case study, it demonstrates its results in addressing the identified problems and highlights the importance gained from the beginning of its implementation in the process, along with the significant role of the tools that supported the methodology's implementation. Regarding the methodology, a qualitative research was used, as the phenomena and occurrences were analyzed based on data collected in the process through the use of quality tools. The study of the process data indicated great operational underutilization caused by the long unproductive time in the packaging process and presented expressive results after the implementation of the automatic packaging machine. Thus, it was important to note that, in certain processes, it is necessary to equip the line with robust machinery in order to obtain the best use of available labor. The results also indicated that the applied improvement substantially reduced the number of activities performed by the operator, as well as the packaging time.
