This paper aims to present the results that the presence of internal control can cause in the
Municipality of Parintins. The study was elaborated by means of a bibliographical and
documentary survey, as well as the field research about the theme with the purpose of
evidencing how internal control functions in the municipality of Parintins; analyze the needs
and importance of internal control; and, to approach the perception of the population through
the forms of control of the public management of Parintins. This being an exploratory study.
Thus, with this research it was possible to verify that there is no analogue and no more
effective tool in the fight against error and fraud, such as Internal Control, if it is based on an
information and evaluation system that makes it possible to prevent irregularities and attain
the purpose of safeguarding public goods.
