A large part of humanity already understands that natural resources are finite. It is, therefore, necessary to reuse all the materials and products we use as many times as possible, which has become an increasingly growing challenge. In this sense, this study aimed to analyze the main difficulties encountered in the selective collection of solid waste in Manaus from a collector's perspective. For this, the method used consisted of the following steps: a) elaboration of a theoretical architecture about the stages of the reverse logistics process, b) creation of an interview script based on the elaborate architecture and guiding questions, c) data collection with the member of a group of collectors, who explained and exemplified the interviewee's answers, d) organization of the collected data and generation of answers to the guiding questions. The results showed that five were the main difficulties encountered, which were classified as environmental (regional climate), conscientious (the lack of willingness of the population to collaborate with selective collection), transportation (lack of material and equipment), and commercial (the pricing of materials is not rewarding). The conclusion shows that only the environmental factor cannot be controlled. However, its effects can be mitigated if the other four difficulties are practiced, which is not a simple task.

This study described collectors' main difficulties in collecting discarded materials in Manaus (Brazil). The method used involved analyzing the practice of three collectors willing to provide in-depth data and information obtained through semi-structured interviews carried out in the respondents' workplaces, which were then analyzed with the help of the conceptual bibliographic method and interpreted with the help of semantic analysis. The results showed that a) the main difficulties are extreme physical exertion, people's rejection, unhealthy working conditions, lack of personal protective equipment, and lack of participation by people, companies, and governments; b) difficulties occur due to lack of equipment, lack of technical knowledge of the materials handled, people's lack of knowledge about the importance of the collectors' work and lack of participation by society and governments in the selective collection; c) who could help to minimize these difficulties are the residents, companies, and governments and d) what the agents can do is to structure the collection (government), separate the materials (residents), provide more disposal sites (town hall) and donation of equipment and training (companies). The conclusion shows that agents are not prepared to carry out reverse logistics in the city because they are unaware of the importance of waste pickers' work to start the city's circular economy.

A implementação da Logística Reversa na região interiorana do Amazonas
(2025-03-15) Souza, Sara Farias de Almeida
This study explores the implementation of reverse logistics in the interior region of Amazonas, focusing on the practices and challenges of this crucial activity for sustainability. Reverse logistics in the region involves the collection, sorting, and shipping of recyclable materials to recycling centers, which are mainly concentrated in large urban centers like Manaus. In cities such as Manacapuru and Parintins, local associations and companies play essential roles in waste management despite infrastructure limitations. The research, which includes a literature review and case study analysis, reveals that reverse logistics contributes to both environmental and economic sustainability by enabling the reuse of materials and reducing the need for virgin resources. However, its implementation faces challenges such as the lack of local recycling industries, the need for greater public awareness, and resistance to change. A success story like Fábrica Móveis Albuquerque in Parintins demonstrates the effectiveness of local initiatives but also highlights the dependence on infrastructure and support from larger urban centers.

Logística reversa do plástico no centro de Manaus: percepção da população
(2025-09-16) Moraes, Vitor da Silva; Alves Neto, José Luciano Rodrigues
The Manaus Free Trade Zone (ZFM), and specifically the city center, face significant challenges in plastic waste management due to its volume and environmental impact. Reverse logistics is crucial for sustainability, promoting the reinsertion of plastic into the production chain. However, the effectiveness of such initiatives directly depends on public perception and awareness. This study investigated the perception of passersby in downtown Manaus regarding the importance of plastic reverse logistics. Through a simple questionnaire applied to 50 individuals, using a 1 to 5 Likert scale, the results revealed that most respondents (90%) attributed high or very high importance to plastic reverse logistics, with 66% indicating "very high importance." Although awareness is high, the study highlights the need for adequate infrastructure, effective public policies, and environmental education campaigns to translate this perception into practical actions and strengthen the circular economy in the region

This study takes an approach to the process of applying reverse logistics in the cardboard production stages until its final stage, which is packaging for eggs to be inserted until final sale in markets and fairs. All production will be carried out at association Recicla Manaus. Reverse logistics involves the return of products for sale, going through the raw material sorting process until the final stage of the process, where there is a new product for sale in commerce. The association Recycle Manaus does reverse logistics work to produce egg shapes with cardboard recycling. Visits were made to the association, and data such as photos and questions were collected from recycling collectors in order to answer the research questionnaire. The SWOT analysis of association Recycle Manaus reveals a series of strengths, such as cost reduction and improved corporate image, in addition to effective collaborations with local collectors. However, there are significant challenges, such as inadequate infrastructure and the need for greater awareness among collectors. Opportunities include the growing demand for recycled materials and the possibility of improving recycling processes, while threats involve regulatory changes and competition in the sector. It is concluded that reverse logistics at Manaus contributes to environmental sustainability and offers economic advantages, in line with the demand for sustainable business practices. This analysis allows a clear understanding of the internal and external factors that affect cardboard recycling in the association, standing out of success and identifying areas for improvement.
