Controle de compactação dos solos por meio do frasco de areia com agregado miúdo da região metropolitana de Manaus-AM
(2025-07-21) Maquiné, Aldenei de Lima; Damasceno, Micael Felipe; Feitoza, José Costa
Currently, the sand bottle is used for control soils compaction in most earth works in the Amazonas, relating the apparent specific mass "in situ" with the apparent specific mass dry according to the optimum humidity obtained in the laboratory. This is a geotechnical test using washed, dried and standardized sand in the granulometric range between 0.80 and 0.60 millimeters. This research replaces the sand in the standardized bottle, with fine aggregate from the metropolitan region of Manaus-AM. The granulometry tests indicate that the sand collected from this research is very uniform, well graded and has a maximum characteristic diameter equal to 1.19 mm. The predominant granulometric fraction classifies the particulate material from Manaus as medium sand (56.67%), with apparent dry specific mass and grain mass respectively equal to 1.5118 g/cm³ and 2.6042 g/cm³. Performed the field tests were carried out in the parking lot of the Instituto Federal do Amazonas (IFAM), Manaus Centro Campus, obtaining the apparent specific masses "in situ" with the standard sand bottles equal to 1,727.74 kg/m³ and with fine aggregate from Manaus the value of 1,620.13 kg/m³. The Degree of Compaction was satisfactorily evaluated based on the relative percentage error, with a view to paving in the Amazonas.

Geração dos resíduos de construção e demolição (RCD): causas e alternativas para a reciclagem no município de Manaus-AM
(2025-04-13) Mar, Brenda de Carvalho; Feitoza, José Costa
The construction sector generates a large amount of construction and demolition waste (CDW), and its disposal remains a challenge for many companies. This study aims to identify the main causes of CDW generation and propose alternatives for recycling and reuse of these wastes in Manaus-AM. The research was conducted at a public agency responsible for housing, analyzing two construction projects over the last two years. Data was collected on waste separation, storage, and transportation, totaling 268,200.07m³ of CDW. A comparison with CONAMA Resolution No. 307/2002 revealed the need for improvements in waste management and disposal practices. The results indicate that, despite progress, there are still gaps in complying with environmental legislation.

Entre avanços, construções e desafios: aplicação da inteligência artificial na Engenharia Civil
(2025-09-04) Silva, Felipe Cavalcante da; Aguiar, Cristiane Pereira de
Artificial intelligence (AI) in civil engineering has revolutionized the sector, optimizing processes, reducing costs, and increasing efficiency. The application of AI covers several areas, such as predictive modeling, project automation, and construction monitoring. In planning and design, machine learning algorithms analyze large volumes of data to create more efficient and sustainable structural models. AI-based software assists in creating optimized designs, considering factors such as materials, environmental impact, and cost-benefit. In construction, automation and robotics, driven by AI, improve precision and safety. Drones and sensors monitor construction sites in real time, identifying structural flaws and preventing accidents. Additionally, AI systems can predict failures in existing infrastructures, enabling predictive maintenance and extending the lifespan of buildings. AI is also applied in project management, optimizing schedules and resource allocation. With predictive analysis, companies can avoid delays and waste, increasing productivity. In the future, it is expected that AI will continue transforming civil engineering by integrating with technologies such as BIM (Building Information Modeling) and IoT (Internet of Things), making constructions smarter, more sustainable, and safer.

Maintenance is crucial for companies that have operating equipment and machinery. Its purpose is to keep these assets in good condition, extend their lifespan, reduce unplanned downtime, and enhance worker safety. Inadequate maintenance can lead to decreased productivity, increased repair costs, compromised worker safety, and diminished product quality. Well-planned and executed maintenance brings benefits such as cost reduction, increased machine availability, improved product quality, enhanced efficiency, and reduced workplace accidents. It is a strategic tool for company competitiveness, ensuring the continuity of production processes and customer satisfaction. This work presents the concept of maintenance and the philosophy of TPM (Total Productive Maintenance), also known as Total Productive Management. Through a case study, it demonstrates its results in addressing the identified problems and highlights the importance gained from the beginning of its implementation in the process, along with the significant role of the tools that supported the methodology's implementation. The information was obtained through exploratory research, document analysis, and interviews with the individuals involved.

In the current context of the construction industry, the use of tools for planning and controlling works is essential, as this way processes are optimized, become more efficient and costs are reduced. Based on this context, the aim of this research is to demonstrate the importance of using resources such as online platforms and software to carry out planning, by comparing the execution of two vertical construction projects, where one uses a computer control system and the other does not. The main indicators of a project were observed, such as execution according to plans, deadlines, costs, productivity and the quality obtained at the end of the work. The conclusion is that when software is used strategically and correctly, making sure that the information collected and entered into the system is true, problems and possible solutions can be mapped out to achieve the following result: a project with profitable management and execution, compliance with the schedule and budget, and a reduction in errors that would lead to poor quality and non-compliance with sustainability on the construction site, such as waste of materials.

With the increasing concern about fluctuations in fuel prices, the need to search for options offering greater economic viability becomes evident. In this context, compressed natural gas (CNG) emerges as a promising alternative, not only providing price stability but also significant economic advantages when compared to gasoline and ethanol. The conducted study also aims to assess the availability of natural gas in the Amazon region, with a focus on its supply in the municipality of Manaus. This involves examining existing distribution infrastructure and expansion possibilities to meet the growing demand for cleaner and more economical fuels. Another relevant aspect addressed is the analysis of exhaust emissions indices in a sample of vehicles powered by compressed natural gas in the city of Manaus, compared to conventional liquid fuels such as gasoline and ethanol. The reduction of atmospheric pollutant emissions represents a significant advantage of CNG, contributing to improved air quality and the mitigation of climate change. Through this research, the feasibility of CNG utilization in Manaus is sought to be demonstrated, while also providing insights for public policies promoting the transition to more sustainable and economical energy sources in the transportation sector.

This study presents the adaptation of a test press to comply with Regulatory Standard 12 (NR-12) of the Ministry of Labor. During the risk analysis, it was identified that the operator was exposed to the risk of hand crushing when positioning plates in the machine's cradle. The objective of the research was to implement technical modifications to ensure the machine's compliance with NR-12 and improve worker safety. The adaptation was guided by the NBR ISO 12100 and NBR 14153 standards, which served as the basis for the risk assessment, while the 5W2H tool was used to detail the necessary modifications. The process involved the preparation of a Preliminary Risk Assessment (PRA), machine adaptation with identified safety components, compliance testing, and the preparation of a technical report certifying safe operation. After implementing the adjustments, results showed a significant reduction in accident risks and increased productivity. Furthermore, there was an improvement in the quality of the plate tests, as the safety peripherals prevented operator intervention during the validation process. In conclusion, the machine's adaptation provided benefits for both worker safety and the efficiency and quality of the production process.
