(2025-07-21) Maquiné, Aldenei de Lima; Damasceno, Micael Felipe; Feitoza, José Costa
Currently, the sand bottle is used for control soils compaction in most earth works in the Amazonas, relating the apparent specific mass "in situ" with the apparent specific mass dry according to the optimum humidity obtained in the laboratory. This is a geotechnical test using washed, dried and standardized sand in the granulometric range between 0.80 and 0.60 millimeters. This research replaces the sand in the standardized bottle, with fine aggregate from the metropolitan region of Manaus-AM. The granulometry tests indicate that the sand collected from this research is very uniform, well graded and has a maximum characteristic diameter equal to 1.19 mm. The predominant granulometric fraction classifies the particulate material from Manaus as medium sand (56.67%), with apparent dry specific mass and grain mass respectively equal to 1.5118 g/cm³ and 2.6042 g/cm³. Performed the field tests were carried out in the parking lot of the Instituto Federal do Amazonas (IFAM), Manaus Centro Campus, obtaining the apparent specific masses "in situ" with the standard sand bottles equal to 1,727.74 kg/m³ and with fine aggregate from Manaus the value of 1,620.13 kg/m³. The Degree of Compaction was satisfactorily evaluated based on the relative percentage error, with a view to paving in the Amazonas.

Artificial intelligence (AI) in civil engineering has revolutionized the sector, optimizing processes, reducing costs, and increasing efficiency. The application of AI covers several areas, such as predictive modeling, project automation, and construction monitoring. In planning and design, machine learning algorithms analyze large volumes of data to create more efficient and sustainable structural models. AI-based software assists in creating optimized designs, considering factors such as materials, environmental impact, and cost-benefit. In construction, automation and robotics, driven by AI, improve precision and safety. Drones and sensors monitor construction sites in real time, identifying structural flaws and preventing accidents. Additionally, AI systems can predict failures in existing infrastructures, enabling predictive maintenance and extending the lifespan of buildings. AI is also applied in project management, optimizing schedules and resource allocation. With predictive analysis, companies can avoid delays and waste, increasing productivity. In the future, it is expected that AI will continue transforming civil engineering by integrating with technologies such as BIM (Building Information Modeling) and IoT (Internet of Things), making constructions smarter, more sustainable, and safer.

Inteligência Artificial na construção civil: benefícios, desafios e a importância do profissional na tomada de decisão
(2025-03-03) Barboza, Tereza Nazaré Ulloa; Aguiar, Cristiane Pereira de
The research explores the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on decision-making in the construction industry, particularly in the use of programs for the preparation of architectural projects. Although AI offers several opportunities for resource optimization, scenario simulation, and process automation, it also presents challenges, such as the dependence on automated systems that can compromise the quality of technical work. The study seeks to investigate the potential benefits and risks associated with the implementation of AI in the sector, with a focus on the creation and management of architectural projects. The methodology adopted involved bibliographic research based on academic articles, books, and recent case studies, with a thematic analysis: identifying the programs that are classified as AI and how they affect today's civil engineering scenario, their challenges, and benefits. The results indicate that, although AI can improve efficiency and reduce costs, its application without technical supervision can generate misinterpretation and legal problems, especially when users do not have specialized training. The research concludes that, in order to maximize the benefits of AI, it is essential that construction professionals continue to act critically, supervising technological tools and ensuring that projects comply with local standards and requirements. Therefore, AI should be seen as a complementary tool, and not as a substitute for the technical knowledge of professionals in the sector.

Reconstrução de um projeto comercial com a utilização da tecnologia scanner para BIM
(2023-03-31) Oliveira, Wenderson Igor de Almeida; Silva, Felipe Wilson Leão da; Barros, Laerte Melo
Modeling aims to make built environments easier to understand, define and quantify materials, visualize, and simulate physical spaces. Currently, building information models (BIM) have been widely used in the creation phase of new constructions, but the use of BIM becomes a challenging process when it needs to be applied in buildings that were built before the technology existed. And today, engineering and construction needs more efficient information models for the reconstruction of 3D projects of old buildings and the architectural heritage of large cities, to facilitate decisionmaking in renovations and new adaptations. The traditional process to create or update the 3D modeling of a building built before BIM is a time-consuming and laborious procedure. Laser scanning technology from point clouds with the integration of a global positioning system, for refinement and adjustment of the external and internal environments of the building help to reduce errors. This article proposes a procedure capable of integrating images and accurate information from a mobile LiDAR scanner by point clouds, a positioning system, and finally, a reconstruction BIM model. The results showed that the procedures improved the quality of the reconstruction in terms of completeness, precision, and speed in modeling.

Renaturalização de cursos d’água em Manaus/AM
(2020-05-12) Chaves, Adelina Cristina Augusto; Carvalho, Iraúna Maiconã
The Manaus City has important urban watersheds that have high levels of pollution, occupation of the margins, reduction of natural drainage and accumulation of solid waste. Such areas need alternatives that enable the landscape to change positively, improving the quality of these areas, mobility and leisure in the community. This work identifies and maps the main streams and water courses in the Manaus’s watersheds and proposes alternatives for the naturalization of the streams' areas, aiming to guarantee the return of the water courses in their fullness. It uses georeferenced hydrological maps of the Manaus’s watersheds, research by public agencies and a bibliographic review by local scientists, who investigate the recovery of riverbeds. Hence, it delimits the watersheds and proposes alternatives for the renaturalization of watercourses. In this way, it aims to contribute to the discussion regarding environmental sustainability and contribute to raising awareness of the need to implement actions with socio-environmental responsibility.
